Education

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

    - Nelson Mandela

The importance of education cannot be overstated.  It is a self-enlightening process.  It is crucial to the overall development of an individual and society at large.

Education provides us with so much through life.  It enables us to have a greater knowledge about the world, it helps us to build character within, it enlightens our minds and can pave a way to a great career. Education can make us feel more complete.

The knowledge we receive as we are going through life and school is irreplaceable.  As we learn from our parents, teachers, peers, mentors, etc. we can make better decisions throughout our lives.  The more we learn and come to know the more capable we are in making good decisions on our journey through life.  Education does not have to come only through textbooks, but can come from so many different resources and people that surround our everyday.

Having an education will more likely give you a leg up in society as a whole.  The education you receive will help shape a better career path throughout your life.  You would have a better chance at getting that dream job or do what it is you love to do with a proper education.  Education can open many doors and opportunities to you throughout your years.

Some of us may not be as educated as others in certain subjects or areas of life.  That does not mean that it is too late to continue learning.  I believe that it is crucial to continue to educate ourselves throughout life.  The world is constantly changing and evolving.  It'd be very wise to continue to stay updated on current events. As we continue to educate ourselves we tend to think, analyze, and judge life's situations with a better state of mind.  Having an education also brings more confidence in ourselves.  We tend to stand a little taller when we know what someone is talking about or if we have an opinion about something we have researched or read.

There is always time to learn and to dream.  I have seen many people fulfill lifelong dreams at all different ages and stages in life.  Never give up on a dream you have.  Educate yourself and continue to move toward that dream.  If it means going back to school then do it.  Sacrifice what is needed in that short time to reach your full potential and dream.  Put a plan in place to live the life you are meant to live and enjoy your everyday.  Education is such a powerful tool.  The more you learn, the more you know.

One last quote that I thought was too good to pass up!  You can never learn too much.  The more you stretch your mind the happier you will find yourself in life.  It is super healthy for your brain to be challenged with new things.  Make it stretch and grow throughout your life.

Questions to think about:

Am I continuing to learn and grow?  Do I have a well balanced education in all subjects?  Where are my passions?  How can I continue to stretch my mind?  Do I have a closed mind or open mind?  Am I willing to listen and learn from those around me?

Family Home Evening Idea:

This month is a back to school month throughout the nation.  Take time to talk with your children about their educational goals for this school year.  What do they want to learn, accomplish or see this year? Talk about ways you can continue that education at home.  Remember to encourage your child to stretch and grow.  Help them to see that learning is fun and can be extremely beneficial in years to come.  What they learn now, they can use the rest of their life.  Make goals for yourself as well.  Is there something you would like to expand on or something new you would like to learn?

Scripture of the month:

"...seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith."  Doctrine & Covenants 88:118
